Trieste celebrates November 25: Mimma Dreams APS puts young people at the center with the YOU PART project
On the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the Municipality of Trieste presented, at the Bazlen Hall of Palazzo Gopcevich, a program of initiatives spread throughout the city to raise public awareness on a topic that continues to be an open wound. Among the protagonists of the day was also Mimma Dreams APS.
On November 25, at the Polo Giovani Toti, Mimma Dreams will officially present the first event related to YOU PART, a project dedicated to young people and designed specifically to give them an active role in the fight against gender-based violence and all forms of discrimination.
Over the years, the association has developed educational programs and projects related to this topic, such as the No Gender Gap platform (https://nogendergap.it/), and has already taken part in the development of policy recommendations as in the Seminiamo Parità project (link to the policy paper).
November 25 represents a key moment to reiterate how fundamental educational work is in preventing violence, long before it becomes a news story.
YOU PART: Mimma Dreams' contribution to the day of November 25th
Among the initiatives presented by the Councillor for Education and Family Policies Maurizio De Blasio, the President of the Equal Opportunities Commission Dr. Margherita Paglino, and the Head of Youth and Equal Opportunities Dr. Carmela Barresi, the one led by Mimma Dreams APS stands out for its focus on the youth world.
YOU PART is a project that aims to:
• allow young people to experience moments of real, safe, and participatory discussion;
• stimulate authentic reflections on the dynamics of gender-based violence;
• bring out the everyday behaviors that can transform a relationship from healthy to toxic and vice versa;
• create a bridge between young people, institutions, and local associations.
During the numerous initiatives at Polo Giovani Toti, the University of Trieste, and at the upper secondary school ITIS Deledda, Mimma Dreams will conduct interactive activities that will allow participants to express themselves, engage in discussion, and reflect on their role in preventing violence: work that speaks their language, uses non-formal methodologies, and makes young people protagonists, not just recipients.
The role of Mimma Dreams in the city context
In the Municipality's program, Mimma Dreams represents the bridge between institutions and young people.
The day of November 25th in Trieste includes:
• display of the banner on the facade of the Town Hall;
• participation in the “Posto Occupato” campaign;
• public speeches;
• a rally in Piazza Unità;
• initiatives in schools.
In this mosaic of activities, Mimma Dreams is the voice that brings the discussion into the daily lives of young people, translating complex concepts into experiences that generate empathy and awareness.
A symbolic day, a continuous commitment
November 25th is a starting point, not a destination. Mimma Dreams continues the work throughout the year: activities in youth centers, European projects, educational programs, collaborations with schools and local organizations.
YOU PART, presented in the context of November 25th, is one of the pieces of a larger commitment: to make our city a community where young people can grow up in an environment free from violence, respectful and aware.
