Crowdfunding for Social Impact. Ideas Taking Shape: Giving, Planning, and Tools

 

 

 

Last weekend, on Friday 11 and Saturday 12 April*, the first in-person training session of the course Crowdfunding for Social Impact took place in Trieste. The course is promoted by Mimma Dreams APS in collaboration with Officine Buone Cause, and was made possible thanks to the support of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region. This opportunity allowed the group of participants to step out of their comfort zones and gain the skills needed to launch fundraising campaigns in the cultural and social sectors.

Guiding the group was Elisabetta Carnelos, a trainer and expert in digital community fundraising, who skillfully blended theory with hands-on practice.

The first afternoon began with introductions: each participant shared their background — from social work to cultural sectors and EU project design — along with their expectations for the course.
From there, the group began a collective reflection on the meaning of giving.
Why do we give? And why should someone choose to support our project?

Theoretical foundations — such as an overview of the fundraising market and effective tools for campaigns — alternated with practical workshops.
We worked on identifying the added value of our organizations or project groups, defining cost examples (i.e., donation tiers tied to our initiatives), and building a first draft of a campaign capable of sharing a vision and activating a community.
Crowdfunding is not just a technique — it’s a true form of creative activism.
It’s the ability to tell a story, convey a cause, and engage people in a way that makes them feel like part of the change.
Elisabetta Carnelos showed us this with great clarity and passion.

And this is just the beginning: the training will continue soon with further sessions focused on strategic planning and digital tools to strengthen our campaigns.
In the meantime, we return home with a renewed awareness and a lab full of ideas ready to grow into impactful social projects.
